Insider Scoop from the Slopes

ree

Our Groups Product Manager, Mel, who resides just down the road in Mt Beauty, was lucky enough to spend a weekend at Hotham recently and she came back absolutely buzzing! With clear skies, fresh snow underfoot and vibrant energy across the mountain, Mel confirmed what we already suspected: this is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons for group ski trips. From beginner slopes to coffee stops and après ski views, Hotham is ticking all the boxes for group ski trips.

For school groups, families and new skiers, Hotham is the perfect balance of learning, fun and that unforgettable mountain experience.

Beginner-Friendly Runs: From Greens to Blues with Confidence

If your ski group is clipping into their skis for the first time, or looking to build confidence after a few lessons, Hotham offers some of the best terrain to help your group level up smoothly.

Start your day from Hotham Central and make your way to the Summit run - a gentle green that’s perfect for practicing those S-bends you've just picked up in your morning lesson. The top offers a mellow gradient for gliding comfortably, with a few playful dips toward the end that add just enough challenge without pushing you too hard.

If your ski group is feeling a bit more adventurous? From Summit, take a left turn to link up with Sun Run, a cruisy blue that winds down to the Road Runner lift. It’s an excellent step up from green runs, helping students transition at their own pace while keeping things fun and achievable.

And don’t miss The Big D! This green run comes alive at night under the lights and is also home to Hotham’s terrain park. Perfect for beginners who might want to try a rail or two in a low-pressure environment.

Coffee Breaks with a View

Cold fingers and ski boots call for regular warm-up stops and Hotham delivers when it comes to coffee and hot chocolate.

• The Bird Cafe, right at the base of the Summit, is a favourite among skiers for a quick caffeine boost or rich hot chocolate, ski-in, ski-out convenience at its best.

• Just across the road, Zirky’s Coffee Shop offers a cozy indoor spot with delicious snacks and drinks to keep your energy up for the next lap.

• For those venturing a bit further down the mountain, Snake Gully Hut, located at the base of the Heavenly Chair, has a great atmosphere and makes for the perfect mid-afternoon warm-up.

School Group Lunches Done Right

School groups skiing at Hotham are in for a treat when it comes to lunchtime.

• Zirky’s, located in the heart of Hotham Heights, provides a two-course menu designed by their in-house chef, catering to all dietary needs. The quality and service here truly elevate the overall student experience.

• Hotham Central also offers a convenient and generous two-course lunch right under Resort Services - perfect for students heading straight from their morning lessons.

Both venues are easily accessible and ensure you are well-fed and recharged for an exciting afternoon on the slopes.

A Season to Remember

With nearly the entire resort open and skiing conditions already exceeding expectations, there’s never been a better time to visit Hotham. The ski schools are thriving under improved conditions, making real progress across all levels and abilities. Whether it’s your first time on skis or you're coming back for more snow adventures, this season promises variety, accessibility and some serious village vibes in the heart of Hotham Heights.

See you on the slopes!
